Space Analysis

While most academic institutions have some form of space management program in place, they are faced with the daily challenge of not only having to keep track of space relocations but also having the necessary resources to incorporate such activities into their space management software.

Many of the institutions that heavily invested in elaborate CAD-based facility management programs are finding the systems to be inadequate to allow the information to become readily accessible to all managers in need of accurate facility data. In addition, many of these organizations still do not have accurate floor plan layouts of their buildings, causing inaccuracies in the space inventory database, which is calculated, based on the interior layout of each floor.

Consequently, most institutions involved with research miss the opportunity to maximize indirect cost reimbursements related to research grants as described under the OMB Circular A-21.

By combining its space analysis expertise with its highly intuitive
web-based technologies, ATG can transform space data into an easy-to-maintain knowledge management tool that can not only be used to maximize research related reimbursements, but also to conduct many types of benchmarking analysis including revenues generated per sq. ft. of research space.

Accurate information on a floor plan layout is the foundation for effective space management. Following the initial studies of existing documentation, ATG professionals conduct an on-site survey of floor layouts and the space usage of each building. The process integrates all the commonly accepted industry standards, such as those adopted the U.S. Department of Education Postsecondary Education Facilities Inventory and Classification Manual.

ATG utilizes its AutoCAD-based enterprise solutions as well Building Information Modeling (BIM) technology, including Revit software, for the development of facility information.

After all information has been collected and processed, it is then integrated into the Space Utilization component of Enterprise Active Visual System®, a highly intuitive, web-based technology hosted directly by ATG. This allows higher education facility management personnel to have immediate access to a wide range of facility related information for a multitude of purposes without requiring any purchase of software or hardware.
